Coffee and Cake

Saturday the 10th of October was World Mental Health Day – an important reminder of the continued importance of mental health in both the workplace and our wider lives.

Everyone at e2e was encouraged to come together to chat about mental health issues over two sessions (and lots of virtual tea and cake) and £50 was donated to mental health charities for each person who joined.

On the calls, we discussed what e2e can do to support better mental health – there were lots of ideas and we am starting to implement some. We also talked about how we can be aware of our own mental health and the mental health of colleagues and how we can support one another there too.

Overall, we raised £2,800 across the two sessions – which will be split amongst three great charities aimed at improving and supporting mental health:

  • Mind – who provide advice and support aimed at empowering anybody experiencing mental health problems. Their work covers support services as well as promoting awareness and understanding of the wide range of mental health challenges people face. Their current campaigns are focused on pushing for reforms to the Mental Health Act, supporting children and young people and people in poverty and from 'racialised communities'.
  • YoungMinds – a mental health charity specifically focused on supporting young people, but also offering help and advice to parents, carers and people who work with young people. Campaigns include activating change in local communities, covering workshops to local schools and youth groups, a prototype smartphone app and supporting young people in drafting petitions to local MPs to make meaningful change.
  • Samaritans – Samaritan's respond to 10,000 calls for help every day and offer support and an ear for anyone going through struggles, specifically focused on suicide prevention. Recent campaigns, alongside their ongoing work, focus on support for those struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic, including NHS and social care workers under more pressure than usual.

We're pleased to be supporting these charities and proud to provide a positive working environment for mental health at e2e.
